MG MOTOR RECORDS LANDMARK 2018 SALES IN MIDDLE EAST

The Firm Recorded Triple-Digit Sales Figures In Its Biggest Middle Eastern Markets

MG Motor is marking a milestone year of sales success in the Middle East as it closes 2018 with an overall sales jump of a massive 453 percent year-on-year. The success of its three new models for 2018, namely the MG RX5, facelifted MG GS, and the all-new MG6 brought about this huge sales record.

Where did MG Motor achieve the best growth?

By far, the one market that stands out in terms or robust sales growth is the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia which witnessed a spurt of 764 percent annually compared to 2017. The impressive numbers were in part thanks to the Royal Decree laid out in 2017 that allowed females to drive in the country. This landmark decree opened MG Motor to a hitherto untapped audience.

The UAE was no less of a performer either, clocking a sales growth of 122 percent. MG Motor recently inaugurated a new showroom in the country, on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai.

Tom Lee, Managing Director for SAIC Motor Middle East, commented on the brand’s success: “Our commitment to the region has been cemented by the very positive results of 2018, and we intend to build on this success further as we establish MG as a household name in the years to come. As a relatively young brand in the Middle East, and with the current challenging market conditions, we are very encouraged by the acceptance of the brand – especially in our biggest market, KSA, where in particular, the MG ZS has performed very well and is the second biggest selling model in its segment.”

MG’s growth strategy explained

MG Motor currently operates as many as 20 modern showrooms and 21 service centres across the Middle East. Its presence is growing apace with the MG 360 and RX5 proving to be the brand’s most popular models. A further three models are slated to join the lineup in 2019, priming the brand for further expansion.

A compact sedan is arriving in the third quarter of 2019 to bolster MG Motor’s C-segment offering. Following the sedan will be an SUV packed with cutting-edge technology. Finally, MG Motor will enter a new segment with the introduction of a full-size seven-seater SUV.

MG Motor is backing up sales with strong service and warranty as well. Says Tom Lee, “We are determined to lead the way in delivering smartly-designed, performance-focused, and importantly, reliable cars to our customers. Our extremely competitive warranty package, which covers our cars for six years or 200,000 kilometres, is a compelling offer which makes us stand out from competitors.

“In terms of quality, we are very confident that our cars are ready for the region. We put our products through rigorous challenges including extreme weather testing, which takes place right here in the Middle East.”

MG Motor’s Future-Forward Approach

Along with the recent launches and more models in the pipeline, MG Motor has also launched an app called ‘MG iLink’ that combines both dynamic and service features in an easy-to-use interface. It is also the only application in the market to offer ‘punch sensor’ technology.

With so many strides in the sales, service, and experience areas, 2019 is shaping up to be a great year for MG Motor. It will be interesting to see how its upcoming models perform in the Middle Eastern market.
