Mercedes-Benz released a teaser video of its new CLS to have us drooling about it. We were quite curious to see how the new CLS would look like. And now since Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the car, boy it looks gorgeous.
The new CLS has been designed as per the new design language of the company. The previous model was beautiful but Mercedes decided to get rid of the curves and implement simple lines to make the overall appearance of the car a bit soft to the eyes. But that doesn’t mean it should look dull. The new CLS demands that much more attention from you every moment.
The front of the new CLS has got a slightly longer bonnet and a new set of striking and sharp-looking headlights. They blend very nicely with the bonnet and the front bumper. The front grille has been widened at the bottom to give a more aggressive stance to the car, perhaps, Mercedes here tried to mimic its AMG design. Then the side profile of the car has the same sloping roofline from the previous model. This was one of the major design features of the CLS and Mercedes has kept it in the new model as well. The rear end of the car gets a slightly revised set of tail lamps.
The interiors of the new Mercedes-Benz CLS have been blessed with a mix of E-Class and S-Class features. Since it’s a Merc, therefore, luxury wouldn’t be a problem. The new CLS gets 64 different coloured lights for ambient lighting. A dual 12.3-inch display for controlling the various systems and infotainment.
Mercedes-Benz has included many new modern features in its new CLS. It’s got the new driver assistance tech borrowed from the S-Class which include autonomous emergency braking (AEB), lane-keep assist, speed limit assist and the Pre-Safe occupant protection system. Pre-Safe Sound technology is also standard for the first time, preparing passengers’ hearing for the sensory assault of an accident when a collision is imminent. There’s also an optional package which has features like adaptive cruise control, active steering assist, active speed limit assist, active blind-spot assist and active lane-keeping assist.
Now, the engine options with the new CLS include two diesel variants and one petrol variant. The diesel units include a 286bhp CLS 350 d 4MATIC, and a 340bhp unit in the CLS 400 d 4MATIC. The petrol engine is a six-cylinder, CLS 450 4MATIC and is the most powerful among the lot, producing 367bhp and 500Nm. It also comes with the EQ Boost’ mild-hybrid setup that contributes an extra 21 bhp and 250Nm of torque over short periods.
Prices for all the variants should be announced very soon.
